Public liability insurance certificate

A Certificate of Insurance is a formal document provided by your insurer that outlines the details of your insurance policy. It is an abbreviated version of the insurance policy that serves as proof of your insurance coverage. It includes information such as the types and limits of coverage, the issuing insurance company, your policy number, the named insured, and the policy’s effective periods.

When Do You Need a Certificate of Public Liability Insurance?

You may be wondering when you would need a Certificate of Public Liability Insurance. Here are three different situations where it may be required:

Business Events

If you’re hosting a business event, the venue might require you to have a Public Liability Insurance. The Certificate of Insurance is needed to prove that you have the necessary coverage to protect against any accidents that might occur during the event.

Contracting

In many cases, if you are a contractor performing services at a client’s home or business, the client will want to see your Certificate of Public Liability Insurance. This provides them assurance that any potential damages or accidents caused by your work are covered, and they won’t be left financially vulnerable.

Lease Agreements

If you are renting a commercial space, your landlord may require a Certificate of Public Liability Insurance. This is to ensure that any potential public liability claims arising from your use of the premises will be covered by your insurance.

What information does a public liability certificate of insurance include?

A Certificate of Insurance typically includes the following information:

  • Name of the Insured: This is the person or business covered by the policy.
  • Policy Number: This unique number identifies your specific policy.
  • Insurance Provider: The name of the company providing your insurance.
  • Effective Date and Expiry Date: The dates between which your coverage is valid.
  • Limits of Liability: The maximum amounts that the insurance company will pay for different types of claims.
  • Types of Coverage: The specific types of coverage included in the policy.

It’s essential to understand that a Certificate of Insurance is proof of insurance but doesn’t alter, extend, or change the coverage provided by your insurance policy.
